Hi Walter,
If you haven't already found a copy of MacsBug (MB) 6.5.4aX, try searching on Apple's former DevWorld FTP site, as described in the old TIL article
MacsBug Version Information, although that site may no longer be online. [The thing is, I believe that MB 6.6.x is supposed to be backward compatible with Mac OS 8.x and 7.6.x, at least in theory... I don't know if it would make a difference, but did you also install the 'Emulator Update Extension' that was included with the full MB 6.6 package (but which might not be in the MB 6.6.x updates)?]
In addition, Apple's current Developer FTP site still has the previous "official" version (6.5.3) of MB available in the
Debuggers & dcmds directory, although as you know this version often had problems under Mac OS 7.6.x and 8.x (as mentioned in the above TIL article), which is why Apple had released MB 6.5.4aX in the first place.
Anyway, sorry I couldn't be of more direct assistance... As you originally suggested, perhaps someone else out there has an actual copy of 6.5.4aX on their machine?
Regards,
