I have just started (And I mean STARTED) a new website dealing with open-source software on Mac OS X. Its address is http://www.macports.com. The mission of this site is to provide developers and consumers, alike, news and insight on developments taking place around the Macintosh community, regarding open-source software. The mission will be made clearer as the site becomes more defined, but right now we are only working with a general idea here. I invite all Mac and Unix developers to visit. Again, this site is at its very beginning and needs a lot of support. If yu feel that this cause is worth while and you can help please feel free to email me.

Hi Ryan,

In your early stages of site-building, you could try hooking up with some of the folks running Darwin-related websites listed in the Netscape Open Directory Project's Darwin Directory. Also, I guess you could even try partnering in some way with Jason McIntosh, whose Mac OS Open Source Software website is currently oriented more towards Mac OS Classic than X.

As Mac OS X becomes entrenched, no doubt there will also be many more non-Darwin open-source projects coming down the pipe (e.g., NeXTSTEP/OPENSTEP ports, and new Cocoa efforts). Actually, there are even some dedicated Cocoa development websites out there, such as Cocoa Dev Central. Sad to say, I myself don't have much time these days to devote to Mac OS X programming, although that may change in the near future... In any event, I wish you all the best with your new website.

Regards,

--Paul
