hello,
I am new to web development and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their knowledge on how to create a forum like the one we are using now. The software I have been using so far for web development is Macromedia's Dreamweaver/Fireworks 4 studio, which is about the limit of my knowledge of web development. The website I am building is a humanities course for ancient Greece and Rome online and I want to put in a forum area like this one for people to have discussions in about the course, so I don't think I need to build anything as massive as the MacNN forums, just something basic.

Hi all,
Just wanted to note that there are also a few earlier related threads in this Forum that discuss bulletin-board/web-forum systems, e.g., the So who knows how? thread.
Regards,

Very cool, thank you all for your info, it was just what I was looking for.
I have come to realize that the reason macintosh is so great isn't just because of the computers, but more so the people and community that uses them is what make using macintosh the best.

If your machine runs OSX then there are about a bazillion boards that you can run on PHP/mySQL. Phorum is one of the most popular.

Web "development" is not web design which is what you're using Fireworks and Dreamweaver for, unless you have a deathwish with a JavaScript book.
