Apple guide is still an extension... but removed from the menu bar... is there a way to programmatically force it to load to the left where it originally was?

I much prefer the Apple guide help than the HTML crappy version that is now default

cheers

Hi,

Sorry about this delayed response...

In terms of Apple Guide help modules, isn't the new-fangled Help Manager of recent Mac OS Classic versions already backward-compatible with them? I.e., if an AG help module is placed in the same folder as its owner app, I believe that it'll show up in the app's Help menu as usual. There are still a few apps around, such as Tex-Edit Plus, which make use of this. (Although, Mac OS X has probably dropped support for AG altogether.) Similarly, good old balloon help is also still supported under Mac OS 8.5.x/9.x.

Actually, I guess I'm not quite sure what you're asking? Is it that you'd like the help menu to appear at its traditional location in the menu bar (to the immediate left of the application menu) and/or with its traditional icon (question-mark/light-bulb)? If so, then I agree that would probably require a bit of hacking in the Menu Manager... Who knows, someone out there might already offer this functionality as a freeware/shareware extension or control panel. :-)

Regards,

--Paul
