For WYSIWYG I happen to like Macromedia's Dreamweaver. BBEdit is the choice if you know how to code. Since we are on this topic, anyone knows of a good text editor for OSX?. Something to do everything form plain html to php and put color-tags and the like?

The Dreamweaver/BBEdit combo is the way to go... I have been using both of these for some time now, and would not change...

I just entered the web building arena myself, and I must say, the Adobe web collection is hard to beat. I know it's pricey, but all the tools are there. I don't have to leave the Adobe ring of programs to build some sweet content. It's really pretty easy to use, and can be visually or code oriented.

Thanks for the good leads everyone,

Page spinner has been on the desk now for a day or two and seems ok for a new bee and produces minimal code. Is BBEdit similar?

Tried MSOffice2001, seemed hard to learn the edit tools and produced A LOT of (mystery to me) code. For wysiwyg, is dream weaver better than MS2001?

Regardless, it looks like a good idea to learn the hand coding so as to be able to make a direct adjustment to a page as opposed to wondering (witch tool do I need to Move that.....?) in wysiwyg editors. (have not tried DW yet)

Thanks again-B

Actually BBEdit should be carbonized for OS X not too far after its release, and the carbon version will be a free upgrade for those who already own BBEdit 6, this unlike other companies who want to charge 150+ for a recomplie of a program I already bought *cough* Office:mac *cough*

I better get my cold checked out :-)

Tell you the truth, if you want dirt cheap, Simpletext is about the cheapest. I used it to build a complete, yet simple practice site when I was learning HTML. I could format all of the text and graphics to make a passable site. I use the Adobe collection now, though, so I can edit the HTML in several forms with pixel level accuracy.

A recompile? You gotta be kidding. I wouldn't wanna be the one who was to carbonize office 2001. Much rather Simpletext...THAT might just require a recompile.

i use golive to rough things out and BBedit to tweak the code.

BBedit is great because you can remotely edit your files, so if you notice a 'spilling mesteak' on a page you've uploaded you can connect with BBedit and fix it without having to... fire up a behemoth like golive or dreamweaver, download the page, edit it and re-upload it again.

it's great for doing PHP, mySQL, CGI stuff etc as well. you can make changes, save them and keep hitting refresh in your browser to see what effect you're having.
