Ok, here is my problem. When I create a web page there is a white border around the page on the left and on the top about 45 pixels wide. I original thought that it would just appear in dreamweaver 4, but when the page is published to the internet it still has the border. I have no idea why it's there, is it some kind of hidden anchor, or is there something turned on in the preference panel that is causing it? I do most of my work in fireworks now because when I export a page it doesn’t have the little border. Fireworks did have the border too until I went into the export preferences panel and selected it to be exported as a generic html file instead of a dreamweaver html file and that took care of it, but if I put it back to dreamweaver html option it has the border again, so I’m thinking that in dreamweaver there’s somewhere like this, but can’t find it. I’m imagining that this is something very simple that I am just completely overlooking, so any advice or thoughts are welcome.

Thanks for your info in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean, a screenshot would definitely help, but try this anyway:

1) Go to Modify>Page Properties... (or press command-j)
2) Set the left and top margins to 0.

Let me know if this helps.

Yep, that did it. I knew it was something simple. Thank you.

errrrr.. make all 4 settings = 0. Netscape and IE use different attributes to make the margins around the pages a certain pixel dimension.

Webmonkey posted an excellent article a few years a go with tables showing the default offsets in various browsers. I still refer to it to this day.

Sometimes you may want to remove the topmargin but leave the horizontal buffer alone so the page floats in the center of the window.
