Hello all! I am recent Mac convert (PC user for 10 years, just ordered a new iBook)

I am wondering about Applescript. I have heard many things about it, but really don't know much about it or what exactly it is. Are there any good tutorials available on the web? faq's? etc.?

Thanks!

To learn a programming language, the first thing is to write a Hello World program. Here is an example:

on run
tell application "Finder"
display dialog"Hello World !!!"with icon note buttons{"OK"}default button 1
end tell
end run

Goto http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_I...s/AppleScript/ there are some web sites that may help you.

Skaught,

Welcome to macNirvana. Good luck with your Mac experiences.

I too became a Mac convert from a PC person, almost accidentally, and over a long period of time. at first i was a little mystified, but the flexibility, customizability, and fun of the platform won me over incontrovertibly. Possibly life-changing in a way some of my PC developer friends have trouble understanding. It's still amazing to me that computing can be this enjoyable. anyway nuff of that..

Applescript - one place to start on your very own Mac is click on an empty space in the desktop, so that you are in "finder" mode (the top right of your menu bar will read "Finder", then click on the following menu items as they appear:

Help > Help Center > AppleScript Help > Getting Started > Why use applescript

and away you go with your first scripts... the Apple website will also have some good info on applescript.

The great thing about applescript is that many applications optimized for Mac are applescriptable and can work together in harmony, for example Dreamweaver and Fireworks.

I am new to applescript too, so the gurus here will no doubt fill you in with all the details as you go along. I've had help from so many terrific people here, i don't know where to start thanking them, except to pass on the good vibe.

Note, if you click on help while you are still in IE, you will get a different result because the help menu is contextual.

Have fun!

Hi all,

Just wanted to note that there are also some earlier related threads in this Forum (e.g., the New to AppleScript thread and the Where do I learn more. thread).

Regards, and happy scripting,
