I was just curious about this: what exactly happens when you logout? Which processes are deemed unfit for living and so are killed, and others deemed righteous and worth keeping? And is there a way to change this "setting" on a process-by-process case? Just a wondering...

Thanks,

Any applications "attached" to a terminal will quit, as well as any applications that have a connection to the windowserver (i.e. appkit or carbon).

See file:///Developer/Documentation/SystemOverview/SystemOverview/BootingLogin/Logging_Out_em_Shutdown.html if you have the developer tools installed (it's also available online if you don't)
