Hello ...
I was able to work with the Public Beta Dev Tools okay, but I'm having trouble getting the "Final" ones up and running.
I've installed from the DevTools CD (giving my Admin password) into a partition I created specifically for development stuff. The install works, but I can't launch Project Builder or Interface Builder or various other apps (though some work okay). Is this some kind of permissions problem; should I not have used the separate partition; or what?
Also, clicking around through the documentation leaves me disappointed. Lots of "file not found" links and "this section under construction" bits. Are these docs any less frustratingly spotty than they were a couple of months ago? How long until complete documentation is made available?
Thanks ...

mm do yourself a favor and install it on the same partition as the osx install

Yeah, you have to install it on your OS X partition, because it installs things into /usr and other hidden UN*X directories. I'm sure it says that somewhere, like in the drive selection screen.

Installing on the X partition worked. Thanks.
There's nothing in the accompanying .pdfs that indicate this is the thing to do, however. Maybe it's on an installer screen, but I don't recall it being there. (It's not there now, but I've since re-partitioned in a such a way that I couldn't pick a non-OS X part for installation, so maybe the installer knows it doesn't need to warn me.)
So much for OS X being intuitive. :/

i've got a question about installing the Dev tools, too....
i'm interested in learning Java...and was planning on using Project Builder. Is there any way I can JUST install PB? I started the install of the tools, and it said it would take 600 megs....but i just want project builder...is there any way to just install that, and nothing else?
thanks

1. quit everything
2. install the dev tools
3. delete the stuff you won't use
seriously, if you don't have a few hundred megs spare when all's done, you're going to have trouble running several programs together - unless you've got a lot more memory than me.
