The Mac OS X 10.0 version of GNU Emacs 20.7.1 identifies itself as powerpc-apple-darwin1.0. Several questions:

Why can't I find mention of powerpc-apple-darwin* anywhere in the 20.7 release from FSF? Have no developers on Darwin or the Mac OS X Public Beta been feeding things back to FSF? Have they been accepting feedback?

I ask because while things like FileUtils compiles just fine, things like emacs require CONFIGURATION-NAME, and there seems to be nothing appropriate for Mac OS X.

Am I missing something here?

you've been missing a set-in-almost-stone code base. apple has been moving a lot of things around. hopefully the release of os x 10.0 will stabilize things a bit. where's darwin 1.3 though?

Developers have been submitting various patches back to FSF... There's some patches for buliding emacs in fink, based off the source in Apple's CVS - and which might even be in FSF CVS by now.

I've been hearing about fink; now I'll actually go and get it.

So much to do, so many things to install, so many books to read. Sigh. I love it!
