As of April 19, Apple is offering a new evaluation copy of WebObjects Developer 5.1 good through June 30, 2002. This is at least for premier ADC members--I dont know to what level of membership this applies. I presume it is for all levels, since premier members get a free full copy of WO.
I know people wonder if ADC membership is worth it, so this may be a good reason to test it out.

What Apple doesn't tell anyone about WebObjects is that you should be an experienced Java programmer to start with (or at least have a solid foundation in it) and that WebObjects has a fairly high learning curve with few books to learn from. I was forced to learn Java after trying out WebObjects 5.1, because I really needed to learn to use WebObjects to create a web based database-dependent app for our company.

Yeah online members can download it. I got it a few days ago before I became a student member.

I'm pretty sure they do say that somewhere, but then you pretty much need to be an experienced C programmer to start with Cocoa/Obj-C, you need to be an experienced C++ programmer before starting with PowerPlant, etc. It's difficult to use an API if you can't write the language, I would've thought that's pretty obvious

Nope, Apple doesn't make it obvious that you have to be very experienced with Java with regards to WebObjects. If you look at their WebObjects website, they just emphasize the ease of developing web applications with WebObjects and make it sound like novices can easily learn it. Even if you are a Java honcho, you'll still find WebObjects to be difficult to learn, primarily because of Apple's horrendously poor documentation.
