From time to time I've allowed a Unix developer who doesn't have his own Mac to login to my machine remotely. I could do that with the Public Beta. Since installing Mac OS X proper, remote logins are not accepted.
Yes, I did tick the relevant box in the Sharing preference panel. And yes, it accepts remote ftp connections, but not remote logins.
Any ideas?

Well, if your not going to use ssh, then make sure to turn on (ie. uncomment) the "shell" line and the
"telnet" line in the /etc/inetd.conf file. Then do "ps -awx |grep inetd" and take the first number (probably
186 or something similar) and do a "kill -1 that_number".
Now anyone should be able to rlogin or rsh or telnet

That is odd. How come he had to make those modifications while my machine has no trouble allowing the remote logins through telnet? All I did was check the box and it worked. I have connected to it remotely sever times for simple web admin jobs and it worked just as it did in the PB.
Why is there this difference?
Jeff.

What protocol is he trying to use to connect? telnet should work. Perhaps you enabled SSH yourself in the public beta, but SSH isn't included in the final due to licensing difficulties and things. I have no idea bout rlogin.

Thanks to all for help!
You are right, telnet does indeed work, though rlogin doesn't.
It may have to do with SSH. I downloaded an SSH package from versiontracker but haven't installed it. It wanted 100MB, and with rumours of an Apple update that includes SSH, there's no point.
I can live with telnet for now, though SSH would be much better.
