I'm trying to make a little app using the Cocoa Java Document Based model in PB. My question is : Where can I place code to initialize things before any document comes to screen ? I'd like my app to launch without doc window first and I want to grab some prefs before the user calls any menu.

Check out some of the abstract functions in NSApplication -- you'll probably be interested in something like public void applicationDidLaunch(). This is called after the app launches. Just make sure that you've created your application controller and set it as the File Owner's delegate in IB.
