yay!
i finally got it to work...
i got the latest libtool from ftp.gnu.org and the latest automake. then i CVSed the latest PHP source (4.0.5-dev) from their CVS server. Compiled with ./configure --with-apxs and boom! libphp4.so
make install
fiddle with types
and yay, it works.
i was unaware of anybody else doing it before, so pardon me if i sound all newbieish and stupid
I'm gonna try with 4.0.3pl2 now, but I'm not holding my breath.

great job!
can you explain what the difference would be in speed or other issues between the dso version and the great apache/php packagae installers by lighyear design??
thanks
looks like starting with 4.0.5 php is starting to treat osx as a first class citizen.

Well basically it separates all the PHP code from the main Apache executable, so whenever you upgrade PHP you don't need to recompile Apache and vice versa. It means you can turn it on and off at will by just enabling/disabling it in the config file.
PEAR still doesn't build due to a problem with HFS(+) not storing pear and PEAR as different files... But this is a minor issue, and if someone with OS X on UFS built it, it should work

Nice job! One step closer to a fully-featured Apache/PHP/MySQL. Now I need to try for compiling apache with GD, TTF, and PDFLib support. This should be interesting.

I took a look at the installer provided by Lightyear.. It worked great, BUT if you take a look athe PHP site you'll see that the version of PHP that Lightyear uses has some bugs in it.. Just a word of caution to those of you who may be running Lightyear's Apache+PHP binaries.. Be careful..

Yup. You know of a way to get this running? Or even if pdflib works under MOSX?

I just tried grabbing PHP 4.0.5 from the CVS tree. When I tried to run ./buildconf I recieved a message telling me I needed to update libtool.. So I cruised to the gnu site, downloaded libtool 1.4 ran make and make install, then tried ./buildconf again.. his time it found the new libtool, but gave me a warning telling me that libtool and automake were in different directories, and an error that it couldn't find /usr/local/aclocal (I believe.. I could be wrong, I'm currently in 8.6)..
Did I just grab a bad nightly build? am I missing something simple?, or did I really screw something up by installing a newer version of libtool?
Thanks.

No, I d/led the lateset version of libtool, too... But now it seems to have randomly broken and stopped compiling properly. I'll look into it sometime. Or not.
