Hi:

I am looking to get into Mac OS X programming. As such, I need to upgrade my machine (a Power Mac 7500 w/ G3 upgrade) so I can run X smoothly and quickly.

As I cannot afford a Premiere membership ($3000!) to ADC on my own, I'm wondering if there are any kind, generous, benevolent, super-swell, heroic Premiere members that might be willing to part with one of their hardware purchase asset keys to allow me to get a new machine at the developer price.

Along with helping a cash-strapped, budding Mac developer, you'd also earn my admiration, adulation, and a great many thanks

I do appreciate any replies, comments, assitance, and most definitely anyone offering a key! If anyone can help, please let me know, and I'll provide my ADC membership name for them to transfer the key.

I sincerely appreciate any help, and thanks in advance!

now that's funny

I'm a student and as such as strapped for cash, but begging for a hardward discount key is imbarising.

You could easily get one of last years models cheap, hell even an iBook is ok for X developement. (Although g4 will always be a little better)

Furthermore I don't get your logic

You want to develope on X, but you need a new machine, however you say the major wall for you is that ADC Primere cost $3000 hense no hardware discount.

Help the mothership out and buy one at full price

Mike:

Believe me, if I could afford to go out and buy a Dual-800 and a Cinema Display right now to "help out the mothership", I'd do it, and I'd smile all the while.

However, did you happen to think that maybe, just maybe, someone in this great big world might be in a different financial situation than you, and might seek someone's assistance this way? I'm not embarrassed in asking for someone's help, if anyone's willing to assist.

I'm qualified for the Apple loan, and if I could use it somewhere like eBay to get an older, cheaper model, great, I'd do it. But, last time I checked, eBay doesn't accept the Apple loan yet. Maybe sometime in the future. Doesn't help me now, though.

All I've done is asked... if no one can or will help, that's fine. I'll bite the bullet, and pay full price, and enjoy my purchase. But I thought I'd investigate this route first. If you can't help or don't want to, that's fine. I thank you for replying

My biggest point is that you don't NEED a dual 800 nor ACD to write OS X apps, and that is your logic as to why you want a developer to give you one of his or her keys.

But hey if you can find a sucker to give you the discount have fun.

I used someone else's ADC membership to get my first comp.
It was the equivalent, a PM8500-120 with a 17inch 1710AV.
And they gave me some software to develop on.
But then someone gave me Codewarrior Gold.

The point is, it is a good way to help a new developer get started. Large or dual monitors are also very helpful for programming.

Well, actually, since you seem bent on bashing me for this, I'm not going for a dual... that was just an example. My plan is to try for a 867 for less than $1900, by minimizing HDD and losing the modem.

If I can't afford a $3500 dual without the discount, why would I go for a dual and ACD for more than that with a discount? Make any sense to you? Me neither...
