well, time to buy a powerbook. I have decided to trade in my g4 450 and move up to the 800 PB. I am going to join apple's developer program (I'm a student) so that I can get the discount and stay up to date with OS X development. When I go to the developer page store it says that there will not be a pricelist after july 18th. Is this permanent, or just until after macworld? I can't buy the book till august so I want to make sure I can still get the discount. Also, will I have any problems doing this? I pay the hundred bucks and get my PB muey cheap right?

I don't know why the pricelist is down. (MWNY probably has something to do with it, though)
To assuage your fears; I _seriously_ doubt Apple has any plans to drop Developer/Student pricing. That just ain't Apple.

You're mistaken. The page says "As of July 18, 2001, there is no longer a Developer Hardware Price List in the United States." They used to only have a price list which said which models you could purchase and in what configuration. It was extremely limited and new products would take forever to appear on the list. Now, however, they've made customized Apple Stores for employees and developers and education, etc. So this list is the only thing they "abolished" after July 18, 2001 -- they replaced it with a customized store. They made it so you just got your discount right off the SRP (as if you're using a coupon or something) and that also means you can order brand-new products at the same time as everyone else without having to wait as you would have in the past.
So in front of this "as of July 18" stuff, it says to "please order directly from the ADC Hardware Purchase Program Store", which is a link. Follow that link and you'll be taken to a special version of the Apple Store which caters directly to ADC members (that's you). Simply choose your product, purchase it, and follow the directions to verify your status as a student (if you're a Student ADC member).

Does anyone know what the situation is in Canada? When I checked last week, it wound up linking me to a pricelist to download from a distributor here. Unfortunately, it's password protected, and since I'm not yet a Student ADC member, I can't open the pricelist. Does anyone here know if it includes all shipping Apple Hardware configs, or just a select few, as Chaaaosss mentioned used to be the case in the US.
[P.S. Does anyone want to give me the password for that pricelist .sit file, so that I can check for myself before signing up as a Student ADC member?] :-)
