Hey all,

I have been reading a few books on C as a precursor to getting in programming for OS X. I know I can just type the programs in a text editor and then compile and run them in the terminal, but I was wondering if their were any nice IDEs that support C. Something that auto-indents, colors brackets, etc. Is there any way to use Project Builder for just simple C programs?

I know this sounds silly but I am an aesthetic junky.

Thanks much.

You could probably use Project Builder if you could figure it out... Try standard tool or blank project

Sounds like you just want a friendly source code editor... PB is one way to go, but alternatively, you could use a text editor (there are some that give you C syntax-aware formatting) to write/edit the code, save, then go into Terminal.app to compile and run.

Sounds like you can use some Pepper. It is a pretty cool editor that supports syntax coloring on a ton of languages including C/C++.

It just suddenly occurred to me that I hadn't mentioned Metrowerks CodeWarrior. It was pretty popular on OS 9, but it's definitely not free. The learning edition (which doesn't give you a license to distribute apps made with it) isn't that expensive though, probably in the region of $50-70.
