I'm stumped.

I need to set a path for tcsh for X-Windows, so I created ~/.cshrc in emacs
and added the line set path=($path /usr/X11R6/bin)

Well, it didn't work. I scoured the man pages ... and came to the conclusion that I did the right thing. I rebooted a ton of times, to no avail.

Please help!

What do you mean by "path for tcsh for X-Windows?"

THe .cshrc file is the right file (and you have the right syntax), but what are you trying to do?

I don't think that will work because you are trying to set the path to whatever path is with the X11 bin added on. But if that's the only line then the path wont be set to anything at all when you try to add /usr/X11R6/bin to it.

The better thing to do is copy the system cshrc file to your home and add the above line to it. I can't remember where the system wide cshrc file is though.

Just type "set" in your shell window, and you'll see

tcsh_initdir /usr/share/init/tcsh

in that you'll find
