No, but I'm interesed too.. also installing SQL to self-teach it, as well as Samba. If people are interested, I may start a web page with how-tos on compiling MySQL and PHP on MacOS X Public Beta (with darwin tools, of course.) Let's see some reactions here, and based on responses, I'll consider putting the effort in.

Last time I checked, part of the build process for PHP4 was broken under Darwin/MacOSX.

PHP 3.016 will compile on DP4 and I am assuming that once the developer tools are released it will continue to compile on the public beta.

PHP4 would not compile on DP4 due to issues with DP4 I expect them to go away soon on Public Beta.

I have been running compiles of Apache and PHP3 on my DP4 box for a long time. My repeated efforts to get PHP4 and MySQL have failed to due to issues with DP4 in October when the Developer Tools for the Public Beta come out I plan on building a Apache/PHP4/MySQL configuration asap.

You should join the OmniGroup Mac OS X lists to keep up on this. I will be happy to update anyone on the process once I get it started. I am going to be placing information on it at my website http://www.mojomonkey.com once the public beta and developer tools are in my hands.

Unfortunately, Apple removed the compilation tools from Public Beta (as far as I can tell). This is stupid, as they are included as darwin, and no doubt someone will create a package to install them or something along those lines sometime soon....

So it's currently impossible (unless you are a registered developer) :-(

The dev tools will be available online soon. Don't worry, you will be able to compile and recompile your apps .

SQL is my second language, some might say it's better than my first. I'd really appreciate info on PHP, mySQL, etc... Mac OSX is going to rule!

It's so hard to get Mac's to connect to Sybase, Oracle, Db2, but I do it anyway, so let me know if you need help!

I would very much like to see a website about installing PHP, mySQL, SAMBA, etc on OS X!
Meanwhile, for those of you who miss the dev tools, take a look at http://www.macaddict.com/content/news/2000/09/13/18709
for instructions on how to get the darwin dev tools to mac os x.

YES!!! I'd love to have a forum for SQL, PHP, Apache etc. Like a lot of others, I'm trying move upstream with web database development. Help compiling these apps would be greatly appreciated - I've been all over the web for the last 24 hours looking for info on how to successfully compile mySQL for the PB and have found many other desparate questions along these lines.

Great idea Dan, but the MacNN boards are for just that. In fact we're bringing back our Mac OS X site: http://osx.macnn.com/ and need contributers. So if you have anything that you'd like published at MacNN, we'd love to have it. Check out the new site. We'll announce it publicly soon.

I have PHP4 running now under apache on Mac OS X.

First I installed the developer tools from darwin (as per the MacAddict article at http://www.macaddict.com/content/news/2000/09/13/18709 ).

Then I downloaded the newest source for apache from http://www.apache.org/dist/apache_1.3.12.tar.gz into /tmp

Then I downloaded the newest PHP4 installation from http://www.php.net/downloads.php into /tmp

The directions at http://www.php.net/manual/install.unix.php couldn't be more simple.

Foster,

Were you able to get PHP4 to complie *and* run as an apxs module on Public Beta? I've been having problems getting the above to work on OS X Serever and was hoping that this would be resolved in PB. Also... did u get MySQL to work too?

Has anyone tried using OpenBase SQL. I've only just installed it from OpenBase.com, but it looks like it runs great under OS X and has a lot of good features. Might be worth a look.

After a LOT of trying, I got Apache to install. It installs fine with PHP4 (follow the Unix installation instructions in the PHP manual at http://www.php.net/manual) but the mistake I was making is have spaces in the names of directories inwhich I was attempting to install from. Under such conditions, Apache configure tells you that you compiler is unsupported
