Here's one for the developers in the house: While some of the screen savers created for OSX look nice, I can't think of a single one that serves any purpose. It would be nice if the system could display some informative information other than 'So-and-so's Computer' or the time.

For instance, I'd like to see a screen saver that displays the number of new emails currently sitting in your in box, perhaps just floating the Mail.app dock icon with it's red badge around the screen would be enough... But ideally, an envelope 'swimming' around the screen with the number of new messages superimposed on it would be nice. Anyone see the movie Disclosure and know what I'm referring to?

Another 'useful' screen saver I'd like to see is one that shows the title, artist and track info from a CD or MP3 playing in iTunes (without having to manually activate the built-in eyecandy effect).

Man I wish I could program this stuff myself, but if anyone wants to steal these ideas, go for it, just give me credit and a free copy okay?

I'd like to have a screen saver that serves me breakfast in the morning and one that wipes my ass after I flush the toilet.

If someone could code that, I'd be most grateful.

Hahahahahahaha!

Uh, yuck.

Hahahahahahaha!
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Having a screensaver with the number of new emails would be cool. Adding uptime, currently connected users, and other vital stats would also be cool.

I'd also like savers that stream stock quotes, or news from the ap or reuters.

A screensaver that simply shows displays all access attempts would also be useful (I get scores of hits on port 80.... *&%^# win2000 viruses...).

I totally agree. All of those things would be great! Much more useful than flying stars or 'pipes' (if I never see that again, it will be too soon.)

Hey developers... Any thoughts about the possibility of any of these ideas coming to fruition?

Let's throw this over to the X Developer forum so they can take a look.

The most useful screen saver is one that just turns the display off after a period of time. If you're using a flat panel it's a good idea to just power down instead of using the screen saver because it'll preserve the back light life...

Just a thought...
