Does anyone know if there's an active effort to port Tk to OS X? I use Tcl/Tk and Perl/Tk for a lot of prototyping (and some apps) on my SGI, but without Tk I don't see an easy way to slap GUIs together on OS X...

Any info would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about Tk, but Apple's own Interface Builder will be available for download in October sometime (someone here surely knows that exact date), and will be on the ADC dev CD as well. I can't wait to learn how to use it!

TK is being ported to MacOS X right now by Jim Ingham. He is now working at Apple, but apparantly doing things not related to TCL/TK, so it's still a side project for him.

There's been some discussion of this on the comp.lang.tcl newsgroup. From what I remember, Jim said he's dropping support for pre-OSX versions of TK, and concentrating exclusively on OSX. I don't remember seeing any release dates, though.

This may be a dumb question, but have to tried to install the "standard" Unix Tk Perl Module?

Also, I'm not in OS X right now, so I can't confirm, but... Tcl/Tk or Perl/Tk may already be installed. I can cruise through what OS 8.6 can see and there is a Tcl folder under System. Apple may have put everything in place for you to get started right away!

TK and TCL are two separate beasties. AFAIK, TK relies on XWindows (well, it relies on libraries related to XWindows - can anyone specify which?). If you install XWindows for OSX, you'll be able to use TK, just not in Aqua.

BTW - is the port of TK going to allow us to create Aqua interfaces? Anyone know of a web page that discusses this?
