Now that the new developer tools support C++ better, is there anyone trying to port openoffice to OS X?

It doesn't look like anybody with the skillz has enough time and effort to invest into it at the moment. In fact, I think most of the workarounds the openoffice team had to implement have been obsoleted by the twolevel namespaces that went into the linker between 10.0 and 10.1, but I'm not sure about that.

This is of course kind of a shame. Its about fscking time something was done about it. Regardless of whether gcc 3 final is out (its not) for OS X some work should be done on this. When gcc 3 comes out, supposedly many of the problems will be fixed. Or the 2 level namespace fixes with the newest developer tools might have done something. The thing is, I don't think anyone has done much to update the status or look into what might have changed since March or April when this stuff was posted.

With that in mind, after Christmas I'm going to get the code and take a look at it at least, and try to familiarize myself with it. If it looks feasible to me, I'll give at least some more of it a stab or try to update the compilable portions to the newest dev tools and ascertain what needs to be done. If anyone wants to help, dan@bigw.org would be somewhere to contact me. I think this should get rolling and I'll donate my (small amount of) time to help.

Oh, if anyone has looked at the code, do they have comments on it? Of any kind?

Dan
