I'm looking for the BEST approach to beginning development of OS X native applications. I've been completely immersed in multimedia programming for the past year or more after which I feel dissatisfied. I haven't developed anything to run directly on an OS since CompSci school days, and that was for Wintel machines.

I do have a pretty good working knowledge of unix, I've considered the "System Overview" documents bedside reading for about a month now, and I've also been accruing and fiddling with the apparently required development tools. What I need is a completed project to learn from. Probably a fairly simple one, but one that covers all of the bases as far as file manipulation, UI, etc....

Any feedback is appreciated.

Currency Converter. It's a tutorial that Apple included. Get your own working app that you'll put together with your own to hands (attached to a mouse and keyboard).

I'm just learning too, and I found it a great help. Assuming you have the Developer Tools installed, go to:

/Developer/Documentation/Cocoa/ObjCTutorial/

Another good place to go is CocoaDevCentral.com. I found this an equally helpful resource.

Hope this is helpful. Also, poke around inthe Developer directory. You might find something else that can help. It's filled wth resources to aide you.
