any ideas/predictions?

does apple have good reason to bring java3d onboard? perhaps they don't
want to give developers the option of not using osX's opengl/cocoa combo?

i've read a previous post about getting the class libraries from a linux
java3d sdk and sticking them in osX but i'm kinda' a greenhorn
and prolly wouldn't be able to pull it off w/o explicit instructions.
(i don't have a mac or osX yet but will likely soon be upgrading from
a linux box. i know java pretty well but am just learning java3d.)

also, could someone explain how it could work anyway? i mean, doesn't the
java3d code (written in java) need to access the underlying opengl implementation
using the JNI api?
if that is correct, wouldn't there be differences between doing so on
linux vs. osX?

thanks. i'm new to this forum and this is my first post.

Load the Linux version, it take a little tweaking but it works. I just can't remember what I did because I was clueless on Java when I started, needed J3D for class.

hmm...
i guess apple is pretty tight lipped about it.

i think i'll wait on getting a g4 until the j3d is
officially supported. linux works ok as long as i don't
touch anything.

I know Angus, but if I can load it with the level of X and Java ignorance I had at the time, most other folks cold do it blindfolded with both hands tied behind their back. It was mainly a matter of looking at file extensions and placing them where it looked like they belonged. A few moves later it worked. I think there were only 7 or so files to keep track of so it's not too difficult to avoid moving the wrong stuff.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
