OK, let me start off with I'm new to all this, that being said go easy on me if I ask a question that seems rather silly. Also, Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!

I spent my Sunday trying to get an Epson 1270 driver to operate an Epson 1200 printer in OS X. I read about and luckily saved an article (that is no longer posted) about how to get various Epson printers to work in OS X.

(ONE OF THE WARNINGS IN THE ARTICLE IS TO DELETE ANY ".DS_Store" Files that are created by moving a directory file. I'm trying out tinker tool it now shows all the invisible files around but now I see tons of these ".DS_Store Files" What do I do?)
If this is the wrong forum to post in I appoligize it doesn't seem to be a general forum issue.

As far as the Epson Printer goes it worked, as the article said with the 1440 dpi only, every other resolution setting did not work.

I wanted to go a step beyond this and try and get the other settings to work. I used Hexedit and was able to get the 1200 printer to be seen via EPSON USB, but when I choose to add the printer through Print Center the ball spins for a bit an I get an error message "An unexpected error has occurred -9621"

Before I made some changes the Epson 1200 and its icon were not seen in the Print Center it shows up through EPSON USB now but in the regular USB it shows with a "?" and says unsupported printer. A baby step in the right direction I hope.

Like I said I'm new to all this just kinda reading various articles picking up a little info and advice as much as I can.

If getting this driver ito interests anyone else, I'm willing to put in all the time to try it out. I need a mentor I'm in over my head but it just seems like I'm really close. I think a lot of people would be interested in using this. I've seen a lot of people up on message boards looking for "Older" printer to work. Just seems silly the printer works great in OS 9. and it almost twin brother (the 1270) has driver support.

Thanks again.

Instead of tinker tool, try locator. you can find it i think on versiontracker.com, it is a gui version of the terminal app. when you get it, make a index in the file menu and it will find hidden files and system files that sherlock would never think to get.

As far as .ds store, i would like to know too, but i don't really need to know...i am happy with the thought that it is a indexing service for your computer so that when you move a file, the computer will ask the .ds store file where it is. then it will find it... like you are listen to an mp3 and messing with your collection too. the song is playing and you move it. vs windows when you move a song while it is playing it will tell you the file is in use.

I don't know, just a guess that i am happy with.

Thanks for the reply,

Your reply is very similar to another board I posted the same message on.

"I can't really help with the printer driver, but I believe that the .DS_Store files are used for storing window settings. You know, like icon size, view as list, column, icon, etc. What makes me believe this is that OS X drops this into every folder you open. Also, it seems safe to delete them too, but it would be pointless to delete all of them, I think. "

Thank you for the info that does help a bit.

I've made a little bit of progress with the printer driver. I'm now

1-able to add the printer to thr Print Center (got around the -9261 error message)
2-have the printer show up with its color icon.
3-print but only in 1440 dpi (color not accurate)

All other settings result in an image that is not even close.
