does anyone know how to make something appear in the menubar, like the volume control and displays?

I'm doing a project for a microprocessor class, and I hope to have a cocoa app to go along with it. If I could make this possible as well, the project will be even better.

Check out the NSStatusItem API in Cocoa. You can only add items to the menubar in the context of your application. The API which Apple uses to display sound level, battery charge, etc., are private APIs (although if you surf around the Net you'll find documentation on them).

I've figured a work around to do what I need to do. I haven't tried it yet to see if it would work, but I'm assuming it will. But yeah, if I can figure out how they implemented the clock in the menu bar, then I'd be set.
