Is it, or, will it be possible in Mac OS X 1.0 to have patches of transparency for a window?
Right now you can use the unsupported alpha command to change a window's transparency, but will there be more control over which parts of the window are drawn in what alpha?

The Music Player app in PB uses a pdf as a window mask. You can for example erase a chunk of it and poke holes in the apps interface. I imagine its possible to have portions of a window with varrying degrees of transparency. might need to uses a non standard view though.

Ah, how does one create something like that music player panel, not square, but shadowed?
Is there a page someone can point me to?

Thanks much Dalgo!
Since then, I've been mainly overriding the style view with my own. And since Quartz rocks so much, there's no need for masks for click-throughs.
It seems a lot easier than what was on this Omni message.

What is the style view? If it's that easy then I think that I'll want to override it to make windows of different shapes too. I didn't see anything about style view in the headers, though.

You define some of it in stylemask, I believe, but basically it's a view (like your content view) that'll be displayed under the content view (ribs, in most cases).
Check out: http://gilgalad.dyndns.org/TetrisSource.tar.gz
It'll show you what you need to do to get a new style view up and running.
The nice thing about this is that shadows work great with different shapes, and there's no need to supply masks!
