I've been waiting for Alcatel to deliver Mac OS X drivers for their ADSL modem. November, they say now.

This is quite a serious problem for UK residents as BT's USB modem is the only option for most people who want Broadband. NTL are slowly benning to offer an alternative service, but BT are the only company with anything like national coverage.

Anyway, the thing is the Linux drivers have been out for 6 months and weigh in at 300K. That's surely not that much code? How long should it take them to adapt these for OS X?

Obviously, the upshot of all this is the OS X is at a huge disadvantage here in the UK for want of a piddling little driver. Anyone up to hacking the Linux version?

This has been discussed to death in the OSX forums of www.macadsl.com (a french site). Currently, a project is getting the two LEDs on the modem to light up, next step is uploading the microcode to the modem. However, it has been repeatedly confirmed by Alcatel that the OSX drivers would be ready in October, and that they wouldn't be released without 10.1

You can get the current incarnation of the drivers here. Do keep in mind though that at the moment, they don't allow surfing.

October is close, the wait will be over soon.
