Hi all,

Can somebody out there recommend a good book for developing pure Java applications on Mac OS X. I have been developing on a PC with windoze for around two years, but I am now interested in moving over to a Apple Mac. I know there are some good resources on the Apple developer web site, but there is no substitute for the having a paper copy in front of you.

Thanks in advance.

Developing pure Java should be the same on all platforms that support Java.

I own the "Early Adopters Mac OSX Java" book which won't teach you pure Java but will explain which IDEs and tools are available.

For pure Java I use "Java in a nutshell" from O'Reilly and the brilliant Java Browser app from apple.
mmmm - I'm a big Cinnamon bun.

There's a Java Certification book written by Phillip Heller which totally rocks. MacOS X is an excellent Java platform no complaints from my side -and I run on a 233MHZ iMac Rev B (granted I have 192MB RAM).

I agree with DaGuy.

I have met Phil, used his book to pass the Java Certified Programmer test.

The book rocks, and Phil Heller really know the language inside and out.
Anyone going to JavaOne should try to do the Java University session to prepare for this exam. Phil taught it last year, and he has a very thorough understanding of the language.

The book can be found here
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

I have a whole bunch of Java books from O'Reilly. I can recommend "Learning java". But if you're already a developer you can basically switch to OSX with no difficulty whatsoever. It is very similar to developing on Linux and Tomcat, JBoss etc all run fine.
weird wabbit
