We develop programs as a side thing to our real jobs. How many people actually pay?

I once heard 10%. I'm not sure if I still believe that. Anybody got some input on this?

It depends on a number of things.

I generally consider myself an honest person, but being a student I have big problems paying for stuff! I don't like paying shareware fees, and rarely do unfortunately. I usually just go from free trial on one app to free trial on another. Similarly, I hate doing so.

I'm a programmer myself (well, studying Computer Science, so technically I'm still learning!) so I'd love to be able to support shareware.

Something has to be really stunning (or cheap!) for me to fork out my drinking...err...living money! I paid for Graphic converter cos although it's fully functional in trial mode, I find it indespensible and can't afford Photoshop! Price is well below what you should pay for functionality on this one.

Either make what you're doing excellent, or give it a decent price::functionality ratio, or release it as freeware or opensource. I've got a few projects on the go that will be released as opensource as soon as they're finished in the hope that others will do the same.

PS. As per about 4 months ago, any cheap shots about my nationality will be gracefully ignored!

Understandable opinion, but saying the price for features ratio is correct, then what % pays?

HINT: This is a much easier question to answer if YOU ARE a shareware developer.
