Has anyone been able to compile and run X11 apps successfully, outside of the default XTerm? My server is up and running without a glitch, but I cannot get any Window Managers to compile at all. I've given up on Fink , there's something I am not doing right there which I cannot figure out. I am a UNIX newbie (although I have dived head-first into it and can port and run most terminal based apps without a problem). What I am really looking for is someone who has gone through all the steps required and wouldn't mind writing out a semi-detailed step-by-step guide. I just want to run a Window Manager that would allow me to experiment with some X11 apps.

I have detailed instructions on using Fink, work arounds and getting fun things like WindowMaker working. Note: I use Tenon's Xtools but you can still follow the instructions if you use Xfree. Hope this helps!

I've gotten WM compiled in the Public Beta (Haven't installed X yet for X). People have also gotten GIMP to work.
