I would really like to port a lot of the old Setting Sun 'faders' to OS X .savers -- but I don't have the first idea of how to do it... I haven't yet even talked to Purple Shark Software, so who knows...
Writing screensavers is really easy in OSX. Go to http://www.epicware.com and dlownload the source for some of the savers there.
It's basically a case of subclassing ScreensaverView and overriding a few methods. You can read up the docs on the developer CD, but it's kind of like:
-(void)startAnimation; // called at the start
-(void)animateOneFrame; // Called repeatedly to animate.
You can also override drawRect instead of animateOneFrame.
