Hey,
I'm a developer on a GPL MPEG & DVD player/broadcaster project named VideoLAN. It currently works on Linux & BeOS, and we are on a MacOS X port.
Keep in mind that this is an early work, and the player is certainly not usable to watch movies now (that's why we are not distributing any binary version), but we're not far away. We are currently able to read MPEG I & II files in a carbon window.
We are looking for developers to help, especially in these domains :
-> Key features we're still lacking :
* AltiVec versions of the iDCT and motion compensation modulees
* AltiVec version of the YUV to RGB transformation module
* Fix the DVD ioctl module so that key authentication works
* Improve the interface (toolbar, seek bar, DVD menus)
* See if hardware YUV acceleration is available using the standard API
If you wan't to come & help, you can visit the homepage <http://www.videolan.org/>, join the mailing list and visit us on irc (irc.openprojects.net, #videolan).
We've also set up a MacOS X page :
