Please help. Everytime I try to do anything such as 'build' in Project Builder It promptly crashes. It gives no clues as to why. No console messages etc. I feel like I have an operating system that's completely out of my control!

The worst I've had is Project Builder locking after saving a file. Anyways, here's some ideas:
Did you try reinstalling the dev tools?
Are you running Project Builder as an admin user?
Where is your project stored? You should put it somewhere in your home folder.
What type of project are you attempting to compile?

This happened to me when I had PB installed on a different partition than the main one. Installing on the main partition fixed it.

here are some details:
It's on the same partition, user is not admin or root, working in the Home directory. All I have to do is open a Java application project, and hit build. Boom. It dies. A week ago It would have compiled the default project in three seconds without hitch. I'll reinstall but Damn, this is how I used to fix Windows Apps, Never mac ones...

I think I read briefly about people having troubles with PB after indexing their projct, In this case try deleting your project's index.
Otherwise you might like to try Apple's project builder mailing list...

I haven't had any trouble with it crashing but I have had trouble with it corrupting my project file.. not my source files. My programs would start doing really strange things after I compiled and then eventually they wouldn't compile due to some error or another that was not true. For example it might give me a multiply defined symbols error even if I had only defined something once. Doing a clean build didn't help either. the solution that I found was to make a new project and copy all of my source files into it. Without modifying my source files it compiled and ran without a hitch.

mine used to crash everytime i hit 'build' too until i moved the developer folder back to the root level of my hard drive.
[that's where the developer CD installs it but i'd moved it into my apps folder.]
