Does anyone know if there is any code completion in Project Builder? I find it one of the most useful features in other IDEs.

The kind of thing I'm looking for is a simple listing of functions displayed in a popup dialog box, say for example, if you type NSObject. and then hit cmd-tab or something like that. Intellij's Idea IDE has some amazing code completion features but I'd like to stick to Project Builder, not least because it's integrated with Interface Builder.

If you type the first few letters of a class, variable or method that appears in the in the file you are currently working in, and then press F5 it will autocomplete.
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

Thanks a lot, I'll try that when I get home this evening. Hopefully it'll recognise that I'm working in Java rather than Objective-C. I saw your previous post on command/option-double-clicking variables to jump to declarations and documentation but unfortunately Project Builder still jumps to the Obj-C version when I would have expected it to have gone to the Java version. Hopefully this will fair better.

There is also the free Completion Dictionary from www.obdev.at (don't know whether there's any Java support). It's a PB plugin, revised recently and based on older NeXTStep stuff.

It does work great. You can configure it, change the existing shortcuts and add your own. Thus it would be possible to add Cocoa Java support. But why on earth use Cocoa with Java??? It simply sucks ;-)

I've done the C/C++ thing (I know they're not the same as Obj-C) but I now work a lot with Java so I'm willing to give Cocoa with Java a go. I can't confirm your comment re Java and Cocoa though if it does 'suck' maybe I'll look at learning Obj-C. So far it's been okay.

I'll try the completion dictionary though, thanks.

Hey, you know C and you know Java!? It's just a small step and you're in Obj-C World! Obj-C is just an extension to C that does allow you to do object oriented programming

I bought the Cocoa book by Aaron Hillegass just some days ago. I have also read the O'Reilly book. Grab yourself a copy of the Hillegass. It helped me a lot and it solved some Obj-C mysteries I was fighting with. Cocoa with Obj-C is simply faster and it does use less memory. Give it a try :-)
