HP now has Linux drivers for a range of printers that are unsupported on Mac OS X. The one I am particularly interested in is the one for the DeskJet 660C (and its corresponding Mac equivalent, the DeskWriter 660C).

I have already got my DeskWriter 660C printing to an extent by using GhostScript to convert PostScript output from an application to some form of PCL and then directing it to my printer using the CLI tool atprint.

What I was thinking was that, if I could get HP's new Linux drivers - which also interface with GhostScript - to compile, I could use the appropriate one as a replacement for GhostScript's generic PostScript to PCL converter and thus be able to produce much better results on my DeskWriter 660C. Only problem is, I can't get them to compile.

So does anyone who knows their way round the source of UNIX command line apps like to suggest what to do to get the drivers to compile?

The home page for the HP Linux Inkjet Driver Project is: http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/

Uhm... Linux and Mac OS X are completely different when it comes to printing, and don't use the same API. Your best bet is to read the source and start a new Mac OS X printer driver project, and implement it with what you learned from the linux driver project.
