I see that certain sessions from WWDC 2002 are available from ADC TV. I also see that you have to pay $300 - $800 to be able to watch them. ($300 for one "set" of sessions - $800 for all sessions.)

Will this be forever? or once jaguar is released will we see these for free? (i.e. is this just to keep stuff secret)

I seem to remember watching some of last years sessions for free.

rant= ON;

[ ] Steve wants us to pay a lot so that he will be able to stop making profits warning.

[ ] Since there was a lot less people than expected at WWDC 2002, they need to fund it via ADC TV

[ ] Apple is testing the first deluxe pay-per-view TV system.

[ ] If you were not at WWDC 2002, you're nothing for Apple.

rant = OFF;

Well, it's probably so that the cost is comparable to actually going there. I mean if you can get the same basic information as going to WWDC but spend only $400 for the whole package, there's less incentive to go to WWDC.

I doubt that the bulk of these will be posted for free; they're mainly a means for 1) people who went to the conference to review the sessions, and 2) people who couldn't make it to the conference to still see the sessions at a lower price. It makes sense; I know I'd be a bit upset if I had spent a lot of money to go to WWDC and then all the sessions were posted for free.

The first year, all sessions were available for free.

I do think the theory is correct that Apple wants to keep the pricing high enough that developers won't say, "Ah, heck. Why go to WWDC? I can just watch it all on ADC TV for $50."

But, I encourage you to write devprograms@apple.com and complain. Write a very nice, but detailed email explaining why you think the pricing is out of line for select developers.

Last year the free sessions started showing up in mid-July. I expect the same this year.

Someone said mid-July and I think that's very optimistic, we aren't getting our WWDC DVDs till Aug. My guess wouldn't be till 2003.
