Let's clarify something from the start: this is a post directed at developers, not originating from one. Moreover, as will become perfectly clear, I not even a wanna be. But I've got this idea (well, actually, it came from this thread. The idea is to build an AppleScript-based Aqua front-end for mpg123, one that would allow for decent usability (ID3 parsing, easy management of playlists, all that good stuff), but based around a MP3 decoder that reputedly draws about a 1/5th the CPU usage relative to iTunes.

So, I guess I'm wondering (1) is AppleScript the way to go, and (2) any takers? (Like I said, I'm no programmer.)
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Without meaning to step on your dreams too hardly, i wouldn't have thought AppleScript was up to the job.

Would you like to be a programmer? Because Cocoa is easier than you think.

If AS can integrate with command line apps (and I'd be very surprised if it can't) then there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it. I've not used AppleScript in quite a few years so I can't help. Sorry

well, it might not be possible, w/ applescript studio.

I started a project last night, and i cant get mpg123 to play via, the AS-S front end (tunez). the command that is used to 'pimp' unix via the gui is

do shell script "whatever"

but it doesnt seem to work with mpg123 as it does with all the other unix commands I have made front ends for.

If anybody cares, I'll wrap-up the stalled project in a .sit and post it.
