Hi all,

We want to start java dev here and will be using both ProjectBuilder and JBuilder (on Mac and Wintel). It seems that CVS is the more accurate way to share sources for us, but I can't find a CVS server for Mac OS X (or Server). Any clue ?

get the source from cyclic.com and compile it w/ the server
option.

You may need --without-krb5 --without-gssapi for configure

I am about 90% sure that the CVS server is built in. The CVS client is definitely there (/usr/bin/cvs) and if I remember correctly the client acts as the server if you tell it to.

I know this isn't what you are asking, but I would go with Perforce over CVS anyday. I have used CVS, PVCS, Perforce and MS SourceSafe and Perforce blows the socks off of all of the others. There is no GUI client for Mac OS X (although there is CW integration) - but this is one of the CL programs that works perfectly and is actually easier to use than the GUI (which runs on Windows).

Anyway, for our Java development we actually chose to pay for licenses of Perforce rather than use the 'free' CVS.

Never heard of Perforce, but CVS is great. We used it at my previous job. You can even do CVS checkouts over SSH using private keys and ssh-agents to keep it simple. UNIX is so fun.

I can verify that it is possible to use the built-in CVS as a server on Mac OS X. It's a bit odd to set up, but it's definitely do-able.

Well, if you look at the configure options when building CVS, you
can build a binary w/o the server portion. Since the Mac man pages
make no reference to that, I *assumed* that they did not buid it
w/ the server code.

In reality, it is probably there. I know the client side works
to our Solaris servers.

yeah, I'm using CVS as a server on Mac OS X out-of-the-box. Just set your CVSROOT and do a 'cvs init' and rock'n'roll...
