Today, Sun released the source for StarOffice.
http://openoffice.org/

If you haven't used StarOffice, it's a pretty-close knockoff to MS Office, only it's free (and now Open Source). It can work with MS Office documents natively.

That's all great and all, but we need to get it running on our baby, now. Anyone ready to tackle this beast? (BTW, it's only 9 million lines of code (!).)

Here's what they say on their website:
...we expect to see active porting of the suite to any platform with an interested (and talented) developer: MacOS, FreeBSD, OS/2, IRIX, HP-UX, etc.
Ready? Let's go!

I'm game. Looks like they have an OS X port in progress. I suggest anyone interested go over there and join in.

especially ones with political tripe in them.

We really need to get going on this - I would love having a good Office Pack for the Mac so that everyone out there wont have to rely upon MS . . plus its going to be free . . .

Sounds great! Anybody's started yet? It seems like the porting mail list does not work properly...

I really don't understand how they are organised right now. I do not see any system port project going. I subscribed to the port-dev mailing list but have not reveiced any in-coming mail so far. Anybody there?
