Hello, I have been given the code for a Java application which uses an Access database to store its data. My university is totally PC based. I can run the app at home on my Mac (OSX.1) but I really don't know how to connect to the database in X. The app uses JDBC and in turn ODBC which I set up at Uni using a windows control panel. If there is an uncomplicated way of using ODBC on my mac I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Is the Access database running on a central server and are you trying to use ODBC to connect to that server, or is the database on the local machines.

Use mySQL.
If the code is worth using, then the DAOs can be quickly re-written to use another database.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

It's on the same machine as the Java files and always will be.

Well you are out of luck then as the Jet database engine that runs Access is not available on the Mac.

This is exactly why nobody in the real world uses Access. It is un-impressive, has some relational limitations, and Microsoft's ODBC drivers tend to only work in NT (how convenient). The real world is run on Oracle, File Maker, and DB2 (MySQL if you are short on cash and can fathom using free software).

Too bad that doesn't help you, though.
