I was wondering about OSX's built-in spellchecker... The only third-party applications I've noticed using it are Adium and OmniWeb (Cocoa framework), yes I'm sure others do, too, but I was wondering if only Cocoa applications could do this? Is it hard to implement it? I'm not a developer, I'm just curious.

Thanks

It is part of the Cocoa API so I am assuming that it only works in Cocoa programs. Also, if a Carbon app was to use it, OS 9 would be thoroughly confused.

Fire also uses it. That is very needed in an IM client. The only other thing I have seen that does that is GnomeICU (and it isn't exactly plug&play).

FYI here is Apple's discussion page about it:
http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Cocoa/TasksAndConcepts/Pro grammingTopics/SpellCheck/index.html

Hope that helps,
Jeff.
