I posted over in OS X general discussion about wanting to switch to OS X if I could get my java online trading platform to work under OS X. Several people have helped me and the last post said to try this board because some of the more advanced java people would be here.
Here is my original post and then I will link it to the ongoing conversation:
I'm about ready to make a conversion from Windows to OS X but in searching past posts I'm a little confused with how well Java is working under OS X. If anyone would like to donate 2 minutes of their time to converting me I would be most grateful. So here are the directions. Go to http://www.interactivebrokers.com/
There is a menu on the left side. Click on Trading system, then Demo, then TWS 4.0 for commodities, a window will pop up asking for a login name and password (this will be filled out) click "login"
If a java trading box opens up then I'm a convert.
Thanks very much for your help.

It does not work as they are looking for the Sun Java plug-in which is not needed under OS X, as OS X supports Java natively. All they would need to do to support OS X would be to change their HTML a bit, and it would most likely work.

You could actually modify it yourself, then save a local version.
I will take this opportunity to point out that this is really poor programming on their part.
There should be more than one option. They have written this page for windows users. Kinda defeats the purpose of Java.

WooHoo! I was kind of right! ( From the other thread)
I though that you could, but I wasn't sure enough to post that. What kind of modifications would be needed?
I said in the other thread that I consider myself a bit of a hack, but I said the same thing, it makes no sense to use Java and then tie it to Windows. That make no sense at all.

Well, some people here write Cocoa programs in Java and think it makes sense.

I am not 100% sure what modifications would be needed but from the source code it looks like they used the Java(tm) Plug-in HTML Converter with the default template and what they need to use is the extend template so that it would work on any platform. Good luck on getting them to update the page though.

Again, I really appreciate the help, and I'm sure all the other people that are in a similiar situation with an online bank or want java gaming, etc.
