Has anyone noticed a problem when a power loss occurs while OSX PB is running? I have a new dual processor G4, with OSX installed on top of the primary drive that had 9.0.4 installed. I've had to reinstall OSX 3 times now because a power loss while OSX is running results in the machine being unable to reboot. It just sits there with the smiley apple face and the color wheel animated cursor on the top left corner. I've left it there for several hours on occasion and it has not come back up. I had to reboot with the OS 9 CD and, reinstall the OS, the install OSX. A major pain.

If you can get it to boot in text mode (was it holding down c while booting?) you can probably see where its getting stuck. I would guess the automatic fsck has failed and it is asking you to manually fsck the disks.

Suggestion from someone who doesn't quite know what he's doing so excuse any inaccuracies:

This seems to be similar to the last comment, but I'm not quite sure. I had a couple of problems and shut off the computer without letting OS X clean itself up. On the next start, I was getting hung up on, I think, "checking system disks" or something like that. I booted into OS 9 and ran Disk First Aid. When I booted back into OS X, it started normally (no delays). I didn't do anything else ... no reinstallation or anything else.

When it says "checking disk" its doing exactly that. I'd leave it there for as long as you can stand (15 to 20 minutes). The key to boot "Verbose" is "v" not c
