I just saw the announcement of the release of GCC 3.0. The mirrors have it.

Since I'm burning the midnight oil fighting against a deadline I won't be able to spend time compiling it and testing it, so I wanted to ask the readership at large if anyone else already did.

The readme looks interesting...
Since EBCDIC
Using Macs since they were Lisas.

Apple is working on it. There is a gcc3 area in the Darwin repository if you're daring and want to test the preliminary version. I've no idea if the stock gcc 3.0 builds on Darwin/MacOS X or not.

apple's gcc3 tree is based off of gcc 3.1-branch, i think. and the stock gcc 3.0 will most definitely not build on Darwin

Whether is builds or not is unimportant, the apple changes to work with Apple's flavor of Obj-C (Cocoa), frameworks, PPC optimization (such as they are) the dynamic loader, etc.. are not included in gcc 3.0, but they are in the works for 3.1. Stan Shebs over at Apple is working on this, and you can get the current state of this project on the Darwin CVS, but it is not ready for prime time... (as in sometimes doesn't even bootstrap)
