Is there a text based pop3 program available for darwin?

Well, there's fetchmail, which will just get your mail off a pop3 server and then mail it to you on the local machine. You have to turn sendmail on for that to work.

Then you can use mutt, or pine, or whatever you want to read, reply, etc.

Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but it's what I use to check my (pop3) mail over ssh when I'm away from home.

Or you could have web-based email check your mail for you, and then check that from lynx! (-:

Actually, mail just reads your local mailbox. Doesn't do pop. And I don't think I'd call mail "nifty" <shudder>

I think its nifty, and I've seen mail set up along with another utility as a pop client.
