Hi all, new to Cocoa and want to learn Objective-C. Does anyone have any recommended books that they use for starters? I saw a few on Amazon, but the last print date on one was 1988, and I was wondering if there was anything newer. Thanks!

Apple's Object-oriented Programming and the Objective-C Language is really the best way to learn ObjC itself (with a little bit of Cocoa design principles tossed in for good measure). You can find it in the documentation that comes with the Developer Tools package, or you can order it in printed form from http://www.vervante.com/apple .

You probably already know about these:

First, go to the Apple site and download their free publication, "Object-Oriented Programming and the Objective-C Language." (Or you could buy it ... it's offered by that California bookseller that was just bought by Barnes & Noble -- can't remember their name -- website is "geek" something.) It's 1.5 MB or 194 pages.

There's the O'Reilly book, "Learning Cocoa". It isn't the best, but reviews say that chapter 3, "Objective-C primer" is good.

Last, and most highly rated is "Cocoa Programming for MacOS X" by Aaron Hillegass (www.bignerdranch.com). As far as I can see, it uses Objective-C exclusively.

That's because it basically is Object-Oriented Programming and the Objective-C Language, if a bit cut down.

Wow, thanks guys! I had the tools installed already (December 2001) and never knew that there was already a tutorial in there. Thanks for the responses!
