Is it hard to create a graphical front end to a CL program? Are there any examples - both Cocoa and REALbasic . . .

Totally doable! It's not hard to do it from Cocoa

To do a shell command from applescript I think it's "do shell script &lt;blah blah blah&gt;". If you want it done with administrator privs, do "do shell script &lt;blah blah blah&gt; password "blah" with administrator privileges"

Are there any CLI wrapper examples for Cocoa that are more "into it" ? That like show how to provide an interface for FTP or something harder than just one command and exiting? Like sending some info, catching the info, doing stuff based on it etc.. ?
