I don't believe that Cocoa has an XML API but I could be wrong. What you could do is leverage the EXPAT XML library which is written in C and and maybe write some Cocoa wrappers around it.

This situation does pose a bigger question regarding Apple's development strategy. Are they going to rely on Java and public domain libraries for web services or do they plan on building new Cocoa APIs? Is is it worth the trouble or is it better to just improve the Java bridge?

I asked this question a few weeks ago and someone posted a link to an Apple employees discussion of this topic. Unfortunately, I can't remember the link, but you can probably search the boards to find it: I started the thread and it was about two weeks ago.

The bottom line is that Apple is indeed developing Cocoa classes for dealing with XML and it will be in a subsequent OSX release. The Apple employee refused to respond to questions regarding timing or more details (understandable). Anyway, they seem to have a plan.

Also in the recent thread about htis same issue, I suggested using an existing ObjC wrapper for Expat: OmniExpat.framework can be found on http://www.omnigroup.com/developer/sourcecode .
