Can anyone recommend an IDE/code editor that is easily configurable for compile options etc.
I want to use it to develop J2ME midlets.
I've found Project Builder too closed for making it do non standard coding.

Project Builder actually isn't so bad. What I do is use PB for the actual code editing alone. Then I have Ant do the compiling for me, and its even possible to hook up PB to the Ant compile process so you can do builds from the build menu.
Check the apple java-dev listserv for details how to do this.

signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

I tried to get that running but had problems as I don't know unix at all and the instructions I found weren't very explanetory. It didn't even say which version of Forte (One) to install in the absence of a Mac version.
Can you give me any hints ?
Is it worth it ? Is it better than a plain IDE configured to compile midlets ?
What about emulators & debuggers - the palm one is the only mac one I could find.

There are others (like Basilisk II) that you can recompile and run with XDarwin, but that site seems to have pretty much every native one around.
